Oil level is not the whole story
A low oil level can be a cause, but an engine can also have an oil-pressure problem even when the dipstick level looks acceptable.
Do not keep restarting it to test
Repeatedly running an engine with inadequate oil pressure can turn a repairable problem into serious engine damage. If the warning remains, arrange recovery or professional advice.
Check for obvious leaks. Once safely parked and with the engine off, look for oil beneath the car. Do not crawl underneath a vehicle at the roadside.
Know which oil your car uses
If the level is low and topping up is appropriate, use the correct grade and specification. Overfilling can cause problems too, so follow the handbook rather than adding oil blindly.
